The Bhantkara class Heavy Carrier was a carrier capital starship in the Wing Commander universe. These carriers served under the Kilrathi Empire and first appeared in the computer game Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger.

About[]

The Bhantkara class Heavy Carrier were the main carrier-class capital ships used by the Kilrathi Empire during the Battle of Earth in 2668 and beyond. These carriers replaced the old and obsolete Snakeir II-class heavy carriers. The Bhantkara carriers proved their worth during the Battle of Earth in 2668 and continued to serve in the Kilrathi fleet up until the end of the Terran-Kilrathi War. These carriers proved to be almost more than a match against the Confederation's standard Concordia class fleet carrier, which was the mainstay carrier class for the Confederation. A Bhantkara carrier measured at nine-hundred and twenty meters long and weighed one-hundred, thousand metric tonnes. It was equipped with eight heavy laser turrets for defense against fighters and offense against Confederation capital ships and small starbases. It is uncertain what has happened to these carriers after the end of the Kilrathi War.

Several Bhantkara carriers played major parts of the Terran-Kilrathi War. In Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger, the KIS Sar'hrai, a Bhantkara carrier commanded by Baron Vurrig nar Tsahl, was a Kilrathi carrier which operated in the Tamayo system for some time during 2669. Tsahl was supposed to prevent the TCS Victory from entering the Locanda System, where the KIS Ras Nakhar was located. The Ras Nakhar was thought to have played a major role during the Kilrathi bio-weapon bombardment on Locanda IV. In the last days of the Kilrathi War, the KIS Karga' attacked the Free Republic of the Landreich. The Confederation dispatched a pair of Confederation cruisers, which were able to chase the Karga in to the Vaku system. However, the Karga was able to defend against the cruisers and destroy them. Because of the radiation from the Vaku System's brown dwarf sun, they would have taken deadly doses in a matter of minutes. Some of the crew evacuated in life pods while the rest committed zu'kara, a form of suicide. The Karga drifted for several years until it was found by the Landreich and brought back online as the FRLS Mjollnir.
