The Hornet Light Fighter is a spacecraft used by the Terran Confederation.

SpecificationsEdit

The Hornet was developed by Origin Aerospace as a fast, maneuverable fighter. It measured at 20 meters long and weighed 12.5 metric tonnes. It was more maneuverable than the Kilrathi fighters in service at the time of its introduction. The Hornet performed the roles of escort and reconnaissance. The fighter's major weakness was the its lack of firepower: only two lasers along with two Dart dumbfire missiles and one Javelin Heat-seeking missile.

Although light, many pilots preferred it to the less maneuverable CF-105 Scimitar medium fighter. While less heavily armored than the Scimitar, the Hornet actually mounts slightly more powerful shields.

Unlike other contemporary fighters, a Hornet lacked a computer and missile lock system.[2]

HistoryEdit

James Taggart began his career flying the Hornet.

Noted Hornet squadrons include the Killer Bees and Yellow Jackets Squadrons, which were assigned to the TCS Tiger's Claw during the Vega Campaign.

By 2668, the Hornet was outdated and soon replaced by newer light fighters such as the F-54 Epee Light Fighter and the P-64 Ferret Light Fighter. Surplus Hornets were sold to the Free Republic of the Landreich after the Terran-Kilrathi War, where they would serve in numerous border disputes.

Christopher Blair and Maniac flew Hornets back at the academy.[3] Many Hornets, Rapiers, Scimitars, Broadswords, and Raptors were flown against the Kilrathi from the Tiger's Claw following the Pegasus incident.[4]

Behind the scenesEdit

In the movie Maniac notes thats he didn't see any hornets like those they flew back at the Academy. In the novel in a similar scene but placed in a different order than in the movie, they noted all kinds of fighters like in the games including Hornets.
