The Ranger-class Light Carrier is a light carrier-class that served under the Terran Confederation fleet. The class leader was the TCS Ranger.
The upcoming Wing Commander remake Wing Commander Saga classifies this vessel as the Yorktown-class.

The Terran Confederation's Ranger-class Light Carrier was an aging carrier design which was designed and built around the 2580's. The purpose of these carriers was to provide secondary support for the larger capital ships. In this role, the light carriers carried only light reconnaissance craft and a small complement of bombers. These carriers did not carry a fighter wing for anti-ship strikes or for fleet defense.
These light carriers were considered obsolete even before the beginning of the Kilrathi War. While they are externally similar to the larger Concordia class fleet carriers, which were a mainstay of the Confederation fleet, they are much smaller and weigh less than the Concordia fleet carriers.
The light carriers carry less than half the fighter complement of a fleet carrier.
The carriers are not well protected compared to their Kilrathi opponents such as the newer Bhantkara-class fleet carrier. The fighter complements of the latest Kilrathi fleet carrier is over three times as large as the light carrier. Even though the is at a severe disadvantage when compared to the Kilrathi's newer carriers, the Confederation had no choice but to operate these carriers in the fleet carrier role throughout the Kilrathi War. The most note-worthy carrier during the Kilrathi War was the TCS Victory (see Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger). Ironically, it was this small vessel and its crew who would prove to be pivotal players in the War's final outcome.
It is unlikely that any Rangers remained in service by the year 2673.
